What Causes Groin Pain While Exercising?

default
Posted on Wed, 14 Dec 2016
Question: I have Crohns disease and have been weight lifting for a year and seeing progress. I am at the point where my trainer is ready to start advancing the weight. My mind wants to and my body is willing to try but my anxiety says this is new territory and do not want to injury myself. I am noticing pain in the lower abdominal and groin area after I do arm day and this is the one wanting to increase weight on rapidly. I am also noticing that walking at 4.0 on treadmill I have some rectal pain and throughout the day. The increase in weight lifting may have nothing to do with it but uneasy it may.

Question. How do I prevent injuries while lifting. My big concern is a hernia or hemorrhoids had them before and not pleasant.

Brief Answer:
gradual increase in intensity

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

first of all let me clarify that your symptoms are probably unrelated to exercise. Groin pain during exercise may suggest a hernia but if you had one I'm sure you would have visited a doctor already. When straining a hernia is usually visible.

In order to prevent injuries you should try to do the exercises with the correct technique and avoid putting more load than your body can take. This means that you have to increase the load gradually and perform the exercises with the correct technique (without cheating that is). Make sure you do proper warm-up every time.

Hernias and hemorrhoids may get worse with excessive straining but this is rarely a serious problem for athletes. For hemorrhoids you should consume fiber, drinking enough water and avoid to postpone going to the toilet. These are all measures against constipation.
