Posted on Tue, 17 Nov 2015
Question: I fell and hit my head yesterday. I have a knot on my head and now have two black eyes. I am scheduled to fly from XXXXXXX to XXXXXXX CA tomorrow. Will flying cause any problems other than scaring people?
Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Head CT scan needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

First, there is need to clarify some aspects of your condition such any symptoms of concussion ( headaches, nausea or vomiting, difficulty concentrating, irritated ).

Another thing to evaluate is your previous health condition such high blood pressure, any drugs used (especially blood thinners).

Black eyes (or raccoon eyes) may indicate skull base fracture.

In my opinion, a head CT scan should be performed to rule out any skull fracture or delayed brain injury, especially if any of above mentioned conditions are true.

Your age is an indication also to perform CT scan after minor head injury.

So, the decision to fly or not, should be evaluated after a head CT scan.

Hope this helps.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
