default
Posted on Mon, 12 Oct 2015
Question: I have regular cycle with 3 to 4 days bleeding no major cramps and some clotting. every month after ovulation I begin to feel a heavy feeling in my uterus which lasts for 2 weeks until I get my period. 1 year ago I had a surgical termination at 5 weeks. afterwards I had a pain in my right abdominal side. I went for a approx 4 months afterwards and no scarring or perforation was seen. I do have ovarian cycts although not big. I am 39 years old with hypothyroidismand of otherwise good health.

Brief Answer:
You need not worry

Detailed Answer:
Thanks Doctor for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through the details provided and understand your concerns. Let me mention that the cycles with ovulation are painful and not the ones without. Ideally every month one of the ovarian follicles mature and give rise to the ovum. It is likely that you are ovulating properly and after the release of the ovum there can be associated pain due to the rupture of the follicle which releases the ovum. This could explain the heaviness that you are feeling after the ovulation since the follicle is still there. Please note that the ovulation occurs from one of the ovaries which are located on either side of the abdomen. That could explain the pain you had on your right side. I would not worry about small ovarian cysts. These are either the ones which are to subsequently mature, or they are left after releasing the ovum.

Some amount of clotting indicates that your bleeding is heavy. This, as well as the pain and heaviness of your ovulation can be controlled by taking hormonal pills (which are also used as contraceptives but here I am suggesting it with a different purpose).

Let me know if you have any specific queries and I would be glad to help.

why has this suddenly started happening do you think? it only began since the termination and concerned that possibly I got knicked or scarred. I had an ultrasound after 4 months but it didn't show up anything.

Brief Answer:
You need not worry.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. I understand your concerns. However, I do not think that you got knicked or scarred. But the surgical procedure of termination is an unpleasant one and makes the body react to the inflammatory process associated. This presentation is probably just a sequele of such a thing. Since the ultrasound does not show anything, I do not think that you need to worry. But you might need to be a bit patient.
