Brief Answer:
Lifestyle modifications.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney.
I understand your concern.
Most important is to find out the cause if your derangement in Lipid profile (Dyslipidemia).
Most common causes are obesity, diabetes, Hypertension, thyroid disorders.
Important here is to manage them if they are so that the derangement which was there doesn't reoccur.
I would like to know a few things :
1. Since when are you having this?
2. Did you have any problems for which your lipid profile was done?
3. Any history of diabetes , thyroid, Hypertension?
4. Are you overweight?
5. Alcohol and smoking status?

Brief Answer:
Only control of BP

Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend.
In such scenario I advise to stop the medicine for cholesterol further and to take BP Medicine on regular basis to maintain target BP of maximum 130/80 mmHg.
You also need to exercise daily which should include brisk walking for atleast 30 minutes a day.
Avoid junk food, oily food, potato, rice.
Take more of fibers and fruits in diet.
If you follow this, you won't require medication for cholesterol further.
Also I advise you to get your thyroid, blood sugar and Lipid profile checked regularly.
Since you are Hypertensive, you should also get a baseline ECG done.
Discuss my opinion with your doctor, I am sure, he will agree to this.
If you have any further query please ask me

Brief Answer:
Detail Follows.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend.
Following are your answers:
1. HDL increases by taking healthy diet as advised. Using Olive oil in food (instead of other oil), exercising regularly, omega 3 fatty acids, fish cod liver oil are also claimed to help in increasing HDL.

2. Long term use of these drugs can cause liver problems , proximal muscle myopathy, myalgia's. They are used for long term if required. So, side effects are weighed over the degree of dyslipidemia and decision is taken accordingly.

If you have any further query please ask me, else you may close the discussion and rate it.
