What Causes High Hair Fall After Using Mintop?

default
Posted on Thu, 4 Sep 2014
Question: Basically i thought my hair was going thin and shredding for no reason, i didnt know what to do so i bought 6 months supply of Minoxidil thinking this would get my hair back to normal which it didnt really make any difference. I went to the doctors and found out i have Hypothyroidism which the doctor said was the cause of me feeling tired and my hair thinning. i started the medication of 50mg of levothyroxine 3 months ago exactly and now my hair is just shedding all of a sudden does this mean the medication is kicking in and now making my hair back to normal or has it got something to do with stopping minoxidil 3 months ago? i dont know what to do either start minoxidil again or wait i am really confused.

Brief Answer:
Could be either

Detailed Answer:
It could be due to either reasons.
Ideally you should have never tried mintop without meeting a doc.
It can have some bad side effects.
From the query, I am unsure about the dose you were using too.
And as you noticed, where not needed, it may increase the hair loss.
So that may be one reason why you started gaining hair again.

The second possibility is that thyroid replacement is helping you out.
The medicine acts slowly
And so its effects are noticed late too.
I would also suggest that at you test the thyroid levels again.
The dose needs to be titrated to every individuals personal needs.

Best of luck

but then I tought about it and realised minoxidil only stimulates the hair follicles that dont grow anymore and in my case it all because of having hypothyroidism do wont my hair just grow back to normal when my levels are right?

Brief Answer:
depends on damage

Detailed Answer:
hypothyroidism slows the metabolism.
so the follicles get less supply.
thereby they damage.
with replacement, those in process of damage will improve.
those already damaged may not improve.

Brief Answer:
Hair loss is not suitable

Detailed Answer:
Hair loss is never suitable.
A loss always means some damage to the follicles.
