Posted on Tue, 30 Dec 2014
Question: Hello , I have a history of miscarriage.. 7 to be exact and also have had 4 children... I just recently found out I was expecting.. I will be 5 weeks tomorrow. My Beta HCG was 2644 on Monday 4w4days and then today 48 hours later it was 2800. I have had some bleeding, DARK brown and very little, only when I use the restroom and all of the normal pregnancy symptoms. .. My Dr. is concerned of an ectopic and I am wondering if it is possible for someone to just have slow rising HCG? Also, I have never had my HCG be this high this early...

Brief Answer:
this could be ectopic...rise in hcg not adequate

Detailed Answer:
hello,
thanks for contacting healthcaremagic.

considering the HCG values 48 hrs apart arise from 2644 to 2800 is not adequate. it should be about 66 % RISE Indicating a possible chemical pregnancy .
But if on ultrasound there has been no intrauterine gestational sac seen and that you have experienced dark brown spotting , but no pain yet , yes ectopic is a possibility.
you have to be followed up with ultrasound to ascertain intrauterine pregnancy first as the management would differ for both and ectopic is an emergency.

please note if you get any form of lower abdominal pain , an increase in pain may conform to the diagnosis of ectopic and a probable rupture.

so in any case follow up ultrasound is a must .

Brief Answer:
it means inside the uterus.

Detailed Answer:
hello,
well intrauterine means inside the uterus and ectopic means a possible pregnancy in the tubes.
an intrauterine pregnancy is always safe compared to an ectopic.
