What Causes Irregular Menstruation In An Elderly Person?

Question: Only had 6 periods since Nov 2014 . Last month it stopped and started over 12 days . Period was due was Thursday and only had light pink / brown discharge what started fri .. Turned 55 last week ... Do you think am near end of perimenopause and what is the cause thankyou

You are more than likely over your cycles. But we can not truly know. Most women at age 55 have finished and are menopausal. But from what you have recorded more than likely you have finished.

Menopause is when the ovaries stop making estrogen and progesterone. Without the hormones your uterus cannot develop a lining and have your monthly cycles. You also no longer make eggs and can't get pregnant
