Question: Over the past few weeks I have been having white discharge everyday and a few days ago I thought I had a yeast infection so I used Monistat 3, the itching stopped but I still have the discharge, I finished using monistat on Wednesday and the following friday I had sex with my boyfriend, and during I started to have this intense abnominal pain, it has never happened before. Brief Answer:
You probably just need more time to heal after yeast infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and I hope i can help you today.

Vaginal yeast infections are common causes of white discharge, itching and pelvic pain. Because you already had symptoms for 3 weeks, the 3-day cream you used may not have worked completely to cure the infection. If you still had inflammation from the infection inside, sexual activity could definitely cause pelvic pain.

I would recommend you try repeating treatment with a 7 day product and abstaining from sex until at least a week after the symptoms go away. If you continue to have pelvic pain and discharge after that, you should really see a doctor for an examination to rule out other causes.

I hope I was adequately able to answer your question today and that my advice was helpful.

If you need anything further, please done hesitate to contact me.

Best wishes,

Brief Answer:
It may have been due to the fact that you had sex twice

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

If you had sex twice in a short period of time, that may be what made you uncomfortable. Either way, if repeat treatment of your yeast infection doesn't make you feel better in a week, you should see a local GYN doctor for a physical examination. I again recommend abstinence until you finish the cream treatment for 7 days.

I hope this additonal information is helpful.

Take care,

Dr. Brown
