What Causes Itching,, Swelling And Burning Sensation In Vagina

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Mar 2015
Question: My vagina is itchy, swollen, and burns. It has been three days, the burning is less and itchiness is somewhat less. Discharge is tiny cottege cheese-like pieces white in color. Now red spots have come, seems like a rash. Bleeding a little. See attached picture. I thought it was a yeast infection. What do I have? Whats going on? Side story: I got an infection in my blood when my wisdom tooth was removed improperly 8 months ago, which caused white circular splotches to be on my tummy and upper legs. They are still there. Its supposedly a mild fungus. Is this related? What do I do? It hurts.

Brief Answer:
Looks like fungal infection. Needs to be treated with antifungal pessary

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I read your query, saw the attached picture and I understand your concerns.

Following is my reply:

1) It looks like fungal infection of the vagina as well as skin outside involving, labia and perineum..

2) Untreated fungal infection over a long period of time leads to such lesions.

3) There are also small blood spots due to the infection.

4) I suggest you use antifungal vaginal pessaries. I am not sure if they are available over the counter. If not available OTC, you need to get prescription for the same and use it.

5) Also get antifungal ointment prescribed for application to labia and skin around it where infection has happened.

6) You need treatment for 10 days after which you will find relief.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Regards,
Dr. Soumya

Brief Answer:
Dont worry. This can be cured

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

This has spread a lot. It is affecting inside vagina and also outside skin.

This cannot be cured by home remedies alone.

Therefore You need to get allopathic medicines. Please visit your gynecologist and get the pessaries and ointment as I suggested.

This does not appear to be STD.

This can be cured if you follow allopathic medicines from your gynecologist.

Dont use antibiotic cream. better to use antifungal cream.

Thank you!

I dont have a gyno. We dont really go to hospitals. I applied the antibiotic cream and it seems to be soothing the area. I will buy antifungal cream too. :)

So bacterial and fungal situations cause these spots? And it does bleed a little? Its the fungus? Because it looks so weird to me.

Any other tips that are not all allopathic? Maybe just somewhat? Since i dont go to hospitals? :) thank you for your help.

Brief Answer:
Wash twice daily

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Yes. It appears to be a fungal infection superimposed by bacterial infection. You need antifungal cream too.

Wash twice daily the whole area with warm water and dry it completely before applying ointment. This helps

It is just a yeast infection right? :) I dont go to hospitals but i am wanting to make sure. The sores seem better. But its all very weird for me. The area still itches a little, and burns a tad but i dont feel burning when i pee. Is that normal for yeast? What are the signs of a yeast infection ending? I dont know much about yeast infections. I hope im ok. How does one get a bacterial/yeast infection?

Brief Answer:
You are right. This is fungal infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome back. I read your questions.

You are right. This is fungal infection.

The symptoms you mentioned are normal for yeast infection.

Signs of healing from this infection means change in skin colour to normal, healing of red spots and decrease in vaginal discharge.

Yeast infection generally starts when your immunity is low or when your private parts area are wet frequently or you sweat more.

Vaginal yeast infection also spreads over a long time if untreated and spreads to skin outside as happened in your case.

I hope I cleared your doubts.

I will be happy to answer any other follow up question if you have.

Brief Answer:
Fungal infection is spreading

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I saw the picture attached. It is spreading.

I told you this is a fungal ( yeast ) infection which is superimposed by bacterial infection and hence needs to be treated with antifungal pessaries and ointments. Present antibacterial ointment will not help you.

I still stand by earlier diagnosis of fungal infection. Please see your gynecologist as it might need a culture and sensitivity test and treatment accordingly.

Home remedies wont work at this stage as this seems to be spreading.

Let me know if you have anymore doubts
