What Causes Itchy Rash On Torso, Back And Legs?

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Jul 2015
Question: My dose of Lamictal was increased to 400mg. 200mg BID. I've taken it approx.. 1 month. I've had trouble sleeping, but this is not new, I now have an extremely itchy petechial type rash on my torso, back arms legs and creases where my panties are. No fever, no sore throat, no flu like symptoms. Not sure if to cut dosage or stop until I can reach my MD. The itching is horrible,

HI

Greetings from Dr.Divakara.P
Thanks for posting your query.

First of all may I know the reason why the dosage was increased ?
Since how long you have been taking Lamictal?

The cause for rash and itching could be due to the medicines ( less likely ) or it could be due to some other cause like Viral infection or food allergy.

See I think your itching is not due to increased dose of Lamictal ( though I am not ruling out the possibility entirely ) becuase you have taken this medicine for sometime and have not got any kind of rashes before ( have you ? )

So it could be either food allergy or viral infection. I need to know did you take any unusual food yesterday or day before?

Also it would be helpful if you can upload the picture of rashes.

As of now I recommend you to continue taking Lamictal in the same dose but if you notice an increase in the severity of itching or rashes you can reduce the dose to 200mg but don't stop the drug .

If you can get a prescription for Tablet Atarax kindly get it and start using it for a day or two.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask.

Regards.
