What Causes Itchy, dark, dry And Leathery Like Skin On Buttocks?

default
Posted on Fri, 11 Jul 2014
Question: I have really itchy, dark, dry and leathery like skin on the top of my butt crack. I visited a dermatologist and he said it was a eczema turned chronic and he prescribed me Fobancort cream to apply and antihistamines but weeks passed and the condition still have not improved. Any slightly pressure or touch will trigger a very bad itch cycle even after I applied the cream and taken my antihistamines. I wonder what can be done to soothe and to cure this problem.

Brief Answer:
Chronic eczematous skin condition , need care

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I have seen the attached picture .
You surely have a chronic eczematous skin condition called neurodermatitis .
You need to apply a strong steroid cream like clop or cosvate over the affected areas twice a day .
Please tell where do you belong to, so that I can guide you regarding the available medicines in that place .
Also this eczema is exacerbated by itching. So you have to try and control this habit of your.
The more you scratch the area, the more will be the itching and the eczema will also increase.
Try to cool the area with a cloth dipped in cold water whenever you have this bout of excess itching . Also keep the area moisturized as far as possible by applying a good moisturizer over the area atleast three to four times daily. Whenever you have itching, you should apply a moisturizer since it will help in relieving it to quite some extent.
You can use vaseline or any other good moisturizers . Wear cotton undergarments so as to prevent any further irritation . Do not apply anything else like dettol or savlon or any oils over the affected areas .

I am in singapore. The dermatologist told me that the cream he prescribe is pretty strong. Where can get the cream you mentioned? The itch is really bad. Slight movement of my boxers caressing the area will send it into a a very intense itch that i couldn't control and it gets even worse at night.

Brief Answer:
Need a prescription drug

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

The cream prescribed by your dermatologist is a very good one but somehow it is not seemingly working in your case.
You surely need to be switched to a higher and a stronger agent. I might not be able to prescribe the same since you will need prescription of your doctor to buy the medicine.
I would advise you to follow the precautions as told and keep the area moisturized as much as possible.
You might have to see your treating doctor again to discuss regarding need of a stronger agent.
But I would like to assure you that your problem is surely a treatable one and I am sure a stronger agent will help in clearing it. You surely need to take care and observe the precautions as told to you earlier.
