What Causes Leg Cramps When On Warfarin, Meloxicam And Tribenzor?

default
Posted on Tue, 9 Dec 2014
Question: I am a 84 yr. old Male. Good health, over-all. Only meds: Warfarin, Meloxicam, & Tribenzor.
Two weeks ago, I began encountering pain during the night, starting right after going to bed. Pain restricted to lower, right leg. No pain during day, Only at night, preventing me from enjoying a good nights sleep. The pain stops when I arise each morning. Pain not associated with leg cramps. I have tried taking 2 Aleve tablets just before going to bed....no help. My primary physician is on vacation at present time. Will appreciate your advice.

Brief Answer:
Possible arthritis exacerbation

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for asking.

I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.

Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:

1. Aleve tablets are similar to meloxicam. It should also be helping you similarly.

2. If you are taking meloxicam in daytime, you can also take one in night, it should help. If you are taking it for arthritis, then it would have increased and has possibly become severe.

3. You can try to take meloxicam at night, if it does not help - you might require stronger analgesics like celecoxib. If its specifically arthritis, intra-articular corticosteroid injection might be useful.

4. Hope there is no swelling in feet or not a smoker. When possible, get an X-ray to check for progression of arthritis.

5. Single leg pains are rarely neuropathy. However, Vit B12 supplements can be beneficial.
When on painkiller, try to use it after meals to avoid gastritis.
If more details are available, neuropathy, arthritis or peripheral vascular disease can be ruled out.

Hope this helps.
