Brief Answer:
X ray examination, Dexa scan , vitamin D levels.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM
I have gone through your query. Low vitamin D or osteoporosis or any pathological process in bone can cause shin splints. X ray of shin bone should be done rule out any deformations/pathology. Dexa scan will be helpful to find out whether osteoporosis or risk for fracture is there or not. Vitamin D level in blood should be checked and if low taking vitamin D supplements will be helpful.
A physical examination with orthopedician is well appreciated.
Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.
