What Causes Lethargy With Apetite Loss?

default
Posted on Wed, 2 Apr 2014
Question: For the past several days my 3yo daughter has been very lethargic with no appetitie. We had to pull her from school two days ago because of a low-grade fever (100 degrees). Yesterday her temperature was 99.2, so we kept her home again. We took her to school today with a regulal 98.6 temperature, but I just received a phone call saying she's in the nurse's office feeling very tired and not eating, but with no fever. Should I schedule an appointment with her PCP or does this sound more like a virus that will pass with a bit more time?

Brief Answer: Decreased appetite. Detailed Answer: Hello. Thank you for your question. I am sorry your daughter is not well. The symptoms you describe sound like those of a virus. So, as you stated, it is likely that it will pass with time. The fact that her fevers have been trending down is very encouraging. Though her appetite may be decreased for a few more days it is important to be mindful of her hydration. A few sips of clear fluids every few minutes will be enough to maintain her hydration. If at any point the fever elevates again, I recommend consulting with your doctor.
