Question : I have a BUN of 27, eGFR of 41, BUN/creat ration of 21.1. My HCP says not to worry, I just need to watch my BP, drink lots of fluid and continue with my ACE inhibitor Lisinopril (because that drug causes changes in egfr without meaning I have kidney disease) and yet the patient note he wrote to me lists my new diagnosis as Chronic Kidney Disease Stage 3. Should I be seeing a nephrologist? My brain says yes!
Thank you.
Thank you.
Brief Answer:
See Neurologist
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns
You are concerned about having a low GFR. I agree with you that you need to see a nephrologist right away. The GFR may be low because of the lisinopril but I would have recommended stopping the lisinopril and using something else. But since your doctor is not really addressing the problem I think it would be in your best interest to see a nephrologist and possibly get a new primary doctor.
I hope this answered your question. Please contact HCM again with your health care questions and concerns
