Question : I went to a cvs minute clintic with chills, aches low grade fever and a non productive cough. Ive already taken 3 doses of bactrim ds (1tab bid). The CVS np ordered Levofloxacin 750 1tab for 5 days. He said to stop the bactrim. Should i?
My niece tested positive for strep. I tested negative but after 3 doses or a day and half of bactrim.

Levofloxacin is a better antibiotic for lung infection like pneumonia. Some strains of bacteria that cause pneumonia is becoming more resistant to Bactrim. Discontinuing Bactrim and starting Levofloxacin will not cause problems.

Please continue the Levofloxacin as prescribed.
