What Causes Mid Back Pain When Diagnosed With Diverticulosis?

Posted on Sat, 18 Mar 2017
Question: My husband has a backache in the middle of his back. He recently had a colonography @ Virtual Imaging and was told he has a touch of Diverticulosis. The symptoms he has now is that he is lethargic and very tired. He didn't sleep at all 2 nights ago but slept very well last night. He has spent much of the day in the bed and has only been drinking water all day except for yogurt and a banana early this morning. We thought he may be dehydrated but he has been drinking plenty of water all day. He keeps pointing to an area in the front ( not the heart) on the front to his left side. Yesterday his urine was dark but he says it's normal in color today. He has been going to the bathroom as usual. Tonight he did not want to eat anything.

Brief Answer:
The symptoms could be due to Diverticulosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
The symptoms that you have described go more in favor of Diverticulosis.
In addition to water,he should take Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS).This will provide Electrolytes like Sodium,Potassium to the body in addition to Glucose. He will be active.
He should take Multivitamin,Multi-mineral tablets to restore his appetite.
If Diverticula are inflamed, anti inflammatory tablets have to be taken.
Nothing to worry.
Please consult a Gastroenterologist and proceed further.
Wish him speedy recovery.

My husband's temp was 98.1 but he was freezing so he turned on a heating blanket and got under the covers. He spit up several times but did not vomit.I originally thought it could be a flu virus but this morning he feels very good again. He has only had 1/2 grapefruit all day. It may tell me more after he has dinner later on today. He said last evening that he felt "blocked" in the intestinal area. I have since Googled the Diverticulosis symptoms and what foods to eat or not eat. I will keep an eye on the foods.

Thanks for your help & time. I appreciated an answer. I know him well enough to know that going to the doctor was not going to happen unless it happens again. Our daughter is an NP so she is close by and listening to the problems too. Thanks again !
