Posted on Tue, 12 Jul 2016
Question: Is a mucous retention cyst within the pneumazitized left pterygoid process of the spheniod bone serious?

Ok what if you add these factors to it. Since 04/2016 they have found a 5x3 nodule in my lung, I have suffered from migraines for 15 yrs but they just recently started to become my severe in length and painful. They found I had mircovascular ischemic white matter disease the same scan they found this cyst. Also last month I had an EDG and they found me to have h. pylori and chronic gastritis. With any these going on am I truly ok? I do feel as though I am I all these things I feel like I'm falling apart!

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Mucus retention cysts of sphenoid sinus can spontaneously regress with no intervention is usually needed. They can occur due to repeated sinus infections. They are found when an x-ray or CT scan is done for the sinuses. NSAIDs are usually prescribed with decongestants for a week if there are symptoms like facial pain and dizziness. If case of chronic sinus symptoms, sinus or nasal surgery may be needed to remove the cyst and reconstruct the area involved.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks

Hello again.

I am sorry for your distress.

Mircovascular ischemic white matter disease is managed if there are symptoms related to TIA i.e transient ischemic attacks by using anti platelets, anti hypertensive (if hypertension is present).

If the migraines are becoming worse then the mucus retention cyst should be sought as a cause and surgical options should be discussed with an ENT specialist.

H.Pylori eradication should be done via clarithromycin, amoxicillin and lansoprazole combination. Metronidazole can be a replacement for amoxicillin if you are allergic to penicillin.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
