Question: I am a 43 year old woman. I am 110 lbs and 5 feet tall. I am having a menstrual period 4 times a month lasting 4-5 days and unusually heavy flow. I am already very low on iron and blood pressure is always very low. I also suffer severe headaches the day before I begin to bleed. Why?

Brief Answer:
Need an ultrasound scan and hemoglobin test

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concerns about increased frequency and duartion of flow.

Following is my reply:

1) You need to get ultrasound scan done to check if you have fibroids or polyp that is causing such heavy bleeding. These are the main causes of bleeding at this age.

2) Such continuous bleeding would have lead to anemia ( low hemoglobin) causing headache. Please get hemoglobin tested.

3) Please see your doctor soon for solution on advice I gave above.

Let me know if you need anymore help.

Brief Answer:
Not related to perimenopause

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

No. Perimenopausal bleeding will not have such heavy bleeding.

An ultrasound scan is must now.
