What Causes Numbness And Tingling In Hands?

default
Posted on Wed, 23 Dec 2015
Question: I have recently been experiencing numbness and tingling in my hands. I have some arthritis in both hands, swollen joints, etc. I also have peripheral neuropathy in both feet. I have noted muscle loss in both legs and have trouble standing for any length of time as both legs go numb and get weak. I do not have diabetes but have been diagnosed with IgA nephropathy. Is this kidney disease related to the afore mentioned symptoms?

Brief Answer:
Progression of peripheral neuropathy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Kidney disease is one of the conditions that may cause peripheral neuropathy.

Symptoms extended to hands, and muscular atrophy, most probably indicate progression of this condition.

It is important to assess correctly kidney function because progression of neuropathy may indicate kidney failure, and if this condition is verified, aggressive treatment needed with hemodialysis.

Gabapentin is a symptomatic treatment for neuropathy, but doesn't stop progression related to causing condition.

I suggest you to discuss with your treating Doctor about these issues.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
