Question: I am 79 years old and have pain and weakness in my legs when arising for bed or sitting. I limp for several steps in pain and eventually can walk better for a while and then need to rest and it starts all over after I stand and try to walk away.

Brief Answer:
Symptoms are suggestive of pinched nerve in back.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms and they are suggestive of neurogenic claudication. In this condition, the nerves get pinched in the lower back (lumbar region) usually due to slipped disc. This leads to pain, tingling, difficulty in walking, etc. Rest for a few minutes relieves the symptoms.

The diagnosis can be confirmed by doing MRI scan of spine.

Even though your symptoms started with varicose veins, the symptoms are not directly linked to them.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
