What Causes Pain In Both Sides Of Abdomen With Normal Mammogram And Colonoscopy?

Posted on Sat, 29 Nov 2014
Question: I am a female 59 yrs. of age. I recently had a yearly physical exam with a clean outcome. My mammogram was normal. Pelvic exam normal. I had a colonoscopy on September 28,2014 where I had 2 polyps removed that were deemed pre-cancerous. In the last 2 weeks I have been experiencing twinges on the right & left sides of my abdomen not at the same time but alternating. I have a history of anxiety, but believe the uncomfortableness to be real. What could this be. When I take Advil it seems to help a lot. I also have sciatic pain

Brief Answer:
It could be colicky pain of intestines.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
As per your description, you had 2 polyps removed. They are precancerous.
The colon extends from Right lower part of the abdomen to the left lower part. So,inflammation of the colon can cause pain on both sides.
Pain can be due to Irritable bowel syndrome.
So,initially I prescribe Pre and Probiotic capsule to my patients with similar complaints along with smooth muscle relaxant tablet containing Drotaverine.
Please take high fiber diet, plenty of liquids, fresh fruits and vegetables.
Nothing to worry .
It will come down.
Hope I answered your query.
If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
Regards
