What Causes Pain In My Right Groin Area?

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Apr 2015
Question: 7 months ago on a camping trip. After sleeping i stood up on my left leg, then right. Suddenly the from the right groin areas a searing pain begun. Ever since I have problems walking, balancing, and climbing/descending stairs. Ramps can be terrifying. My leg will support my weight and mechanically it is fine, just seems to be no control of it. At night i would get "Frankenstein" leg where the leg would just lock up. When it happened there was also a sever back spasm that went away with a botox injection.
I am 53yo, was active till this, and had l4-5 surgery (twice ) in XXXXXXX 2006. Iv'e had 2 Drs say no to hernia one say yes to it. I am not sure what to do next as I have had a freind with same condition that was treated for a hernia.

Brief Answer:
It can be a inguinal hernia

Detailed Answer:
Hello
I have studied your case. I believe it can be a hernia or hip joint problem. But before I advised you anything I would like to know little detail about your illness.
1.Is there any bulging in your groin?
2.Do you feel heaviness in thigh specially with weight lifting or stairs climbing?
3.is there any difficulty in squatting, cross leg sitting?
4.have you done any investigations?
Please send me answers of these questions. I will try my best to help you.
thanks

When I am standing Dr's cant find anything (turn head and cough), but my Orthopedist had me lie down then he found the hernia. Sadly today the surgeon couldn't find it.
My right leg is what i call clumsy (lack of finesse) so heavy does work as a description. As the day goes on the heavier it feels.
I dont cross my legs often, but driving is starting to bother my right leg. Sitting I can feel a burning in my thigh (inside leg) along for lack of a better term, inseam.
There have been no direct investigations, just investigations looking for nerve/disc issues. I have had MRI's of the spine and hip. I do rememember many many years ago having imaging done and they said I had a small hernia, but since it wasn't bothering me they were not going to do anything about it (When I was in my 20's).
What further investigations can be done. Would this show up on imaging.

I sat down and cried when I got back from the Surgeon, I was so hoping for this to be the problem, as my life has been hell since this happened.

Thankyou.

Brief Answer:
Ultrasound can help us in diagnosis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for replying. There is no need to be panic about it. Hernia is not very serious issue. It can be cured easily. First you need to get ultrasound examination of the groin. It will confirm the diagnosis.
If there is hernia present than it will need surgery. You should not delay this treatment as there is chances of intestine obstruction. So get it treated as early as possible.
I hope these steps will help you.Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks

JUst came back from the Orthopedic Dr. he wants to do a diagnostic cortosone shot into the hip to see if this aids in pain relief or not. I have had hip MRi's that come back normal.
I am thinking of going to a hernia specialist (Dr here that advertises as specializing in Hernias) for another opinion. This is now keeping me from sleeping (comfort) and as the day wears on I really have issues walking.
The localized pain level in the groin has increased. I am thinking its a sports hernia and they are just having trouble finding it, a new set of eyes might help.

Brief Answer:
Hernia can be diagnosed by ultrasound

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for replying. It is good that your Hip MRI is normal. As far as your hernia is concerned you need to get ultrasound to confirm the diagnosis. If there is hernia than you need surgery to repair this.
if there is no hernia on ultrasound than we need to take this as muscle pull or ligament injury.
You should continue hot water fomentation. Also tablet Brufen can give you pain relief.
I hope these steps will help you.
thanks
