What Causes Pain In The Scar Of Hysterectomy?

Question: I have a 14 year old hysterectomy scar that suddenly became painful. When I checked the skin all around it was bright red with riash and a clear liquid seems to be oozing out of it. How should I handle this? YYYY@YYYY

Thanks for contacting healthcaremagic.

The pain in the scar and oozing with inflammation indicates that its CELLULITIS due to infection.
It would be wise to report to the ER, as this would have to drained to release the pus and sent for culture and further antibiotics would have to be started till healing occurs.

You may at present clean it with an antiseptic ( dettol) and cotton swab and then place some cotton gauze at the site of oozing and bandage it and report to your physician for a local examination and if required a incision and drainage under GA or local anaesthesia.
