Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Thanks for the query.

I have read your query and understood your problem.

I hope you could answer me a few questions about your condition for me to be in a better position to help you.

Do you have any stiffness of the neck which prevents you from touching your chin to the chest completely ?

Do you have fever, sensitivity to bright light or loud noise ?

Do you have pins and needles sensation over the hands ?

Do you have trouble hearing ?

According to the history provided, I believe you are suffering from a disabling pain centered over the back of your head towards the ears and now involved the entire back of your neck.

There are many causes for the same. I have treated patients with similar complaints after suspecting the following - Cervical spondylosis or degenerative changes of the vertebrae in the neck which can cause muscle spasm and pain down the back of the neck. Also a slipped disc between the vertebrae can press on a nerve and cause severe muscle spasm. This can also cause radiating pain down the shoulders with pins and needles sensation.

I also believe you could be under a lot of stress and not getting much sleep recently. Stress can also be a trigger for the muscle spasm in the back of the neck due to faulty sleeping position or sitting up late nights sitting in bad posture with strain to the back of the neck. Keep well hydrated with 6-8 hours of sleep daily. Avoid working long hours. Stay stress free with deep breathing exercises and incorporate Yoga into your routine for very effective stress relief.

Kindly apply hot water bag to the painful region which will help decrease the muscle spasm and the pain. Also you can take Tablet Diclofenac 75mg or 100mg + Thiocolchicoside combination which has pain killer and muscle relaxant respectively that will help reduce the pain and relax the tense muscles. Also alternatively you can apply pain killer gel of the same combination drugs. You can also wear a soft cervical collar to help with controlling neck movements and provide relief.

If you aren't finding relief with the same in 5 days or it is getting worse, kindly consult your Orthopaedic surgeon to get a thorough clinical examination and necessary investigations like Neck X-Ray or MRI as necessary to look for the cause of this pain.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Thanking you.

Regards,

Dr. Aashish Raghu
