What Causes Painful Urination Along With Presence Of Blood?

default
Posted on Thu, 24 Sep 2015
Question: I had an internal vaginal procedure done today at West Shore Hospital emergency room Mechanicsburg, PA and they found a mass on my left ovary and spots on my kidney. Later I gave a urine specimen and it was mixed with blood. When I pee it is very painful. I will be making an appointment today at the PinnacleHealth Womens Cancer Ctr. My question is should my pee be so painful? Thank you for your help. Would Petroleum Jelly or Neosporin help relive the acid feeling?

Brief Answer:
PAINFUL URINATION WITH BLOOD MAY BE DUE TO INFECTION

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear and thanks for your query.

First:
Painful urination with blood have many reasons .
Painful urination is most often caused by an infection or inflammation somewhere in the urinary tract.
It may be due to :

Bladder infection
Swelling and irritation of the tube that carries urine out of the body (urethra)

At your age this is common due to changes in the vaginal tissue during menopause (atrophic vaginitis).
Use of Petrolium jelly and Neosporin can help in lubrication of your genitals ,but they may cause irritation of your genitals if they are used for a long time .
Hence if you have used it for a long time ,stop using them .

While you have done a urinalysis ,diagnosis of urinary tract infection can be done
Hence wait for results.
Than ,if the infection will be there, doctor will prescribe you a course of antibiotics.
During this time use much more fluids ,especially water .

Second:
Blood in urine may be due to:
infection (urinary tract)
atrophic vaginitis
or ovary mass

Third :
Mass on your ovary.
It may be benign or malign ,it should be determined with proper examinations from
Womens Cancer Ctr.

All the best and fast recovery
