Brief Answer:
unfortunately it's a permanent damage of the nerve..

Detailed Answer:
Hello xxxxxxxxxxxx, Welcome to HCM,

I've gone through your query and understand your concern..

Now Post traumatic optic nerve atrophy (shrinkage) is a permanent damage thus can't be repaired in long term..

Only some possibilities are there while it's in the acute/immediate stage (reconstructive surgery, steroid therapy etc.) but since 6 months have passed by , so that possibility is also not there..

Yes, your neuro ophthalmologist is quite right in this aspect..

Let me know if there's any further queries..

Take Care
Kind Regards
