What Causes Persistent High Blood Sugar Levels Despite Taking Medication?

default
Posted on Thu, 3 Nov 2016
Question: I just started lantus insulin injections. I noticed that my blood sugars continue to go up every day. Do I need to increase the dosage of lantus? I am currently taking 30 units.

I have just started taking Viibryd an anti-depressant. Would this cause high blood sugars as well?

Brief Answer:
What have been your readings in the last 48hours?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Kindly report your blood sugar values in the past 48hours fro review. Based on these, I will make the decision on whether we need to increase the dosage or not and if yes, by how many units. Has ether been any changes in your diet? Exercise levels?

Viibryd is not known to cause increased blood sugars.

I hope to hear from you so as to be able to provide more detailed and personalized information.

Yesterday it was 177, today it was 181.

Two days ago my blood sugar was 164.

Under toujeo my blood sugars were great...81, 119, all in that range.

My blood sugar today at 181 was after a 16 hour fast!

I have had no change in my diet or exercise.

Should I increase my lantus injection (currently 30 units)?

Brief Answer:
Increase the stop 35units!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Clearly, the sugars are poorly controlled. I will suggest that you increase it to 35. You will need to keep further log books taking your sugar at least 6times daily for proper evaluation and more suggestions.

In addition, pay close attention to your diet and keep physically active.

I wish you well and keep me posted with your progress.
