What Causes Pink Sputum Post Intake Of Symbicort For Peribronchial Cuffing?

Question: symbacort causing pink spit that almost feels like a powder substance? this has only happened once for me and it was the first time I sued it. dr. believes I have asthma because he found peribronchial cuffing and prescribed symbactort to treat this. does this seem like asthma and was that pink stuff blood or was it a reaction for using symbacort once? dr. orderd a chest ct and will be having it done shortly. ive had an ecg echocardiogram and ekg all come back normal. could that pink spit be a warning sign of cancer? I have mild shortness of breath, chest discomfort and headaches (dr, also ordered a brain mri) I myself am not a smoker, but had exposer to second hand smoke from birth to 18 years old. im now 21 and haven't lived in Smokey environment for almost three years.

Brief Answer:
Likely asthma, pink sputum is likely blood and may indicate some infection

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Pink spit is likely blood in sputum also called hemoptysis and has multiple causes and possibilities. Hemoptysis is mostly benign and mostly due to some acute infective process on respiratory tract. With shortness of breath in history and use of steroids odds of infection are more likely and asthma exacerbates with all this so yes asthma could be a possibility.

let your doctor run some labs, have a pulmonary functions tests too , allergen immunotherapy to sort out the allergens for the trigger of asthma. Continue using corticosteroids and dont worry for once in awhile pink spit, it happens in infections mostly and rarely worrisome not in your age.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and don't forget to close the discussion please.

It only happend once after my first puff on symbacort. My x ray found: "peribronchial cuffing or edema" chest ct will be schedualed soon. Is this still likely reoccurrence of childhood asthma? My peekflow was 525.i also have a 78 degree schuemans kyphosis. Could this be a more serious issue? My bp is 109/76 my echocardiogram came back perfect (taken 9 days before x ray findings) EKG came back normal three times and ecg sleep study came back great oxygen saturation stayed above 90 percent all night. Is my issue still likely asthma or is it possiabley somthing worse?

Brief Answer:
Asthma or bronchitis.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back to me

Peribronchial cuffing is thickening of bronchi it happens either in infection of respiratory tract or asthma. Peak flow is not important in asthma. Its peak flow in first second also called FEV1 that counts. With average height , peak flow of 525 is not bad. Scheuermann's kyphosis is basically a confounder of asthma and may mimic asthma features and may likely be the cause on its own of your respiratory discomforts.

Nutshell, its likely respiratory tract involving COP either bronchitis or asthma and nothing sinister. Kyphosis has a role played in it and needs to be corrected conservatively or surgically. Talk to your spine doctor for further details in that regard. Don't worry about the lungs symptoms, the maximum it can be is asthma and that will need inhalers and bronchodilators.

I hope it helps.
