Posted on Mon, 22 Dec 2014
Question: pink skin patch on penis. noticed it on the foreskin about 6 weeks ago after masturbating. went to the dermatologist and he told me it looked like irritation and prescribed westcort. i used it for about a week and stopped because it appeared to have gone away. since, i've had sex with my fiance and it has reappeared. got an STD test for gonorrhea, chlamydia and HSV 2 and all came back negative. no itching, burning, discharge.

Thanks for your quick response doc. Any idea how i can get it to not recur again? My fiance and i abstained for two wks, it appeared to have cleared up(no redness) and after we had oral sex and intercourse, it came back. Ive been using aquaphor for 3 days to keep it moisturized/protected while at work, should i continue? This has nothing to do with any kind of fungal infection either, right? Thanks again!

Brief Answer:
Do not use aquaphor. relax it is quite normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello young fellow,

Welcome again to the forum and thanks for your swift response.

As I told you in previous mail that it is totally normal condition and there is nothing to be worried about the condition. It is not at all related to fungal infection. So do not worry about the same.

For the complete relief I suggest you to not be vigorous in your action of intercourse and avoid harsh friction.

It is normal to find such kind of eruptions occasionally in all young men like us. At the maximum I use cortisone cream for few days to get earlier relief.

Using aquaphor will not help so much. So do not use the same.

Hope you must be relaxed to know the simple facts regarding your concern. I will be glad to answer any further queries or if not then can close the discussion and rate the answer.

Thanks again for your response doc, sorry i just get worried when it doesnt go away/get better because i do not want it to affect my sex life. Ill stop using aquaphor and abstain for some time and see how it reacts. I dont like to use hydrocortisone often on that area because of potential skin thinning. Also after i get out of the shower i notice the spot is slightly flaky, is this normal?

Brief Answer:
You can use plane petroleum jelly over the flaky area.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome again to the forum and thanks for your follow up.

I really understand your concern as you are getting married.

The one thing I want to reassure you that your condition is not at all related to any type of STD so do not worry in any case.

For cortisone also it is good that you do not want to use it because of steroid nature but to tell you about it - it is one of the mildest steroid and applying for few days never harm our skin.

You can use plane bland moisturizing cream without any fragrance such as petroleum jelly over the flaky area.

Hope you must be relaxed to know the simple facts regarding your concern. I will be glad to answer any further queries or if not then can close the discussion and rate the answer.

Last question about treatment, doc. The area is very slightly raised and dry. Should i use 1% hydrocortisone cream until the redness subsides and follow up with a moisturizer to restore the skin? I just dont want it recurring and last time it happened i used the hydrocortisone until the redness cleared and didnt follow up with any kind of moisturizer. The redness was gone but i could still tell the skin was damaged(very slightly raised flat patch of skin). I just want to make sure im treating this correctly as i feel if this was something harmless itd be gone by now and not recurring. Thanks again for your help! '
