What Causes Recurrent Bacterial Vaginosis?

default
Posted on Tue, 4 Oct 2016
Question: I've had recurrent thrush/ bacterial vaganosis this year. My doctor has booked me in on friday for a vaginal examination. I'm a bit worried he may use a speculum, as I found it very painful during a past smear. I was wondering if you could explain the procedure for taking swabs?

Brief Answer:
Lubrication helps in reducing pain

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concerns.

Procedure involves using a speculum to expose the vaginal vault and take the smear. Smear needs to be taken from highest part of vagina for effective examination. High vaginal swab will help in testing the bacterial vaginosis organisms.

The process of inserting speculum is painful. Taking a swab is painless. Request your doctor to use lubrication while inserting speculum to reduce pain.

Let me know if you need anymore help.
