Posted on Wed, 16 Sep 2015
Question: In order to have multiple sclerosis, do lesions have to show up on MRI? Is it possible to have a case of numbness and weakness in the limbs five years ago and now again and the MRI still comes back clean, can I have ms, and not have lesions?

MRI not showing any demyelinating lesions inspite of relapsing events, rules out MS.

Thank you. Could muscle spasms in the neck, cause numbness and tingling in the arms and hands? I need help, none of my doctors can figure out what is causing the numbness and tingling. Do you have any suggestions as to any tests I can take or what it might be?

Brief Answer:
Nerve conduction studies/MRI cervical spine

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up.

Muscle spasms in the neck may be associated with tingling and numbness in some conditions like cervical radiculopathy but neck muscle spasm is not a cause of tingling and numbness.

'Nerve conduction studies' of extremities can help in establishing whether neuropathy is causing these symptoms.
MRI of cervical spine is an important investigation to see for the evidence of radiculopathy, which also may be a cause of the symptoms in your case.

Further investigations can be planned on basis of the above investigations.

Hope that I have answered your query. If you have some further questions,I shall be glad to answer else please close the thread, rate it and write a review as your rating will be of help to me.
