Question : Hi there, I am 41yo female. Non smoker fit and healthy weight. Twice this week I have been awoken in the early hours of the morning with almost unbearable chest pain. On the first occasion I lay really still trying not to move and after 10 mins of it coming and going in waves I took 2 codalgin forte and was able to get back to sleep. My normal BP is approx 130 on 78 with pulse normally around 70. I took it during this attack and it was 148/96 pulse 82. Over an hour BP dropped to 147/81.
At 3am this morning I awoke with the same symptoms and BP 150/89 pulse 78. I had some 5mg OxyContin left over from an operation last year so took 1 of those and the pain is now subsiding with BP now 139/87 pulse 72.
I have had Hypothyroidism for approx 5 years and take oroxine every day. I had blood test recently and dr said everything was fine accept cholesterol was creeping up and I think was 5.9 (no medication suggested dr said its hereditary as I have an excellent diet). I have a hectic job but I don't find it to stressful aside from odd situational occasions. I do suffer from extreme fatigue which he says could be due to my work and my type A personality and I am a single mum and I own and operate 3 realtor offices and manage 18 staff. My Dr allows me to take a Duromine tablet every now and again when I need to work a 20 hour day (30mg phentermine) I would take no more than 60 tablets a year with a dose of 1 tablet in the morning if expecting a very long day and have never experienced any side effects aside from staying awake.
My mum is a fit and healthy non smoker but is on cholesterol medication and my dad has had 3 heart attacks and 2 strokes but was a very heavy smoker.
The only other health issue I have is recurrent and chronic yeast infection which I am trying to treat by reducing sugar and carbs in my diet.
Could you advise what I should do regarding the chest pain?
Thank you

                                    Brief Answer:
Further diagnostic tests advised
Detailed Answer:
Hi my dear,
I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.
If I was your caring doctor would advise to run following diagnostic tests :
- hormonal tests including thyroid function test and sexual hormones levels
- cardiac tests: ecg, echocardiogram, Holter monitoring, stress test.
If everything will result ok , then it is important to get your dyslipidemia and hypertension well treated and under control.
Diet with low sodium intake and limiting foods high in calories, fat and sugar will also help along with medications.
All the best!
