Question: My daughter is 27 years old. She started her menstrual cycle 2 days ago. Now she's experiencing such pain in her lower back that she cannot rise to a standing position. Discomfort like tension in the lower almost left to the tailbone part of her back. It feels like when you've been laying on your belly propped up on her elbows for too long and you start to feel that twinges kind a like that but dull and achy

Brief Answer:
Spasmodic or muscular pain

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting the question.

The pain that your daughter is experiencing right now seems to be either due to her menstrual cycle or skeletal muscle spasm.

During menstrual cycle, smooth muscle of uterus tend to undergo spasmodic contractions causing radiating referred pain to the lower back. This occurs in quite a few women and usually goes away with smooth muscle relaxant tablets like meftal spas or cyclopam.

Other possibility is that the paraspinal muscles besides the spine may be inflammed due to back strain or a prolapsed intervertebral disc.Taking analgesic anti inflammatory tablets along with application of local gel and hot fomentation will help.

If the pain does not reduce with the above measures, then get a Xray of the lumbar spine done and consult a nearby doctor.

I hope the answer was useful.

Feel free to ask me any follow up queries that you may have.

Thank you.

Kind regards.
