What Causes Severe Pain And Stiffness In Upper Abdomen And Back?

Question: i have servere stiffnes and soreness across my upper abnomin and back ... i have much
difficulty getting out of bed or sitting still for a lenthy time .. i experience sharpe pain
could this be artheritice ? it runs in the family ... my mother.. i am 84 years old.

I have gone through your query. Arthritis of spine is a possibility in your case. X ray of spine will be helpful to rule out this. Blood routine and ESR tests will be helpful to rule out any possibility of systemic arthritis.
Anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen will be helpful if pain is more. But should not be taken continuously as it can cause gastric problems. Physiotherapy , exercises and hot fomentation will e helpful also. Taking calcium and vitamin D is also good.
Do you have any gastric problems or heartburn (gastroesophageal reflux)? In such case also there can be upper abdominal pain radiating towards back. In that case therapy with proton pump inhibitors like esomeprazole will be helpful.
