Posted on Thu, 4 Aug 2016
Question: I am 9 weeks pregnant and have been vomiting a lot recently. I vomited very hard last night and some solids were extremely hard to get up and out. Now I have the feeling my throat is very tight, slightly painful to swallow. It just feels as though something is stuck in my throat. It's not low per se it's high feels like right below my tonsils. It's driving me insane what can I do? Drinking doesn't help. Nor does eating.

Brief Answer:
It will heal gradually in a few days.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
It seems that the hard stuff has damaged the pharyngeal mucosa which is causing the irritation now. It will take a few days for the irritation to subside. Sipping warm fluids will help. Avoid taking any spicy food. Just relax. It will gradually heal on its own. Local glycerine application can help.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
Ask for Doxylamine first.

Detailed Answer:
You need doxylamine tablets to control the vomiting that you re having. In case the vomiting is not controlled with doxylamine then only Zofran is given. It is not the first line medicine. It is best to consult your gynecologist and get the appropriate medicine prescribed.
