HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Constipation can result in bloating because the retention of stool and air within the intestines.

Constipation is a possible complication of colostomy reversal. It is defined as having a bowel movement less than 3 times a week.

You can use medication temporarily to allow you to have a bowel movement.
After this occurs then prevention of future episodes of constipation is key.

In terms of present treatment you may want to consider a stool softener which would prevent straining. An example of a stool softener is docusate (also known as colace, correctol, docu-soft)

Another type of agent used is a stimulant laxative. It promotes contraction of the intestines so that the stool can be expelled.
An example is dulcolax (also known as biscolax or bisac-evac)

Either of these should be available over the counter.

After this evacuation of stool you would need to prevent future episodes of constipation by using enough daily fluids (at least 8 glasses a day) and also using high fiber foods that are easy to digest.

Examples of high fiber foods that are easy to digest are:carrots, squash, yams, sweet potatoes, turnips, potatoes, beets, plantain.

Summary: (1)the use of a stool softener such as docusate may be the best option to avoid straining and affecting the wound site if the reversal was recent

(2) if this is not enough to help with a bowel movement then you would want to consider dulcolax

(3)in the long term the use of enough fluids and easily digestible fiber foods would be best

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
