Question : My husband (62) has in the last few days been asking questions about the obvious. I think it is called "splitting". He is doing this constantly throughout the day. I'm putting on my coat- he says are you going to the store. I'm cooking at the stove- are you making dinner. I'm getting the broom- he says are you going to sweep the floor. Several years ago he was diagnosed by a GP Dr. as to possibly having Aspergers syndrome.
Yesterday instead of telling me what he wanted, he would talk to the cat and hope I heard his request and respond. What is my first step to finding out what is wrong? We don't have a neurologist near by.

The kind of behaviour that you are stating could be that of an asperger. Moreover ones a person is diagnosed as asperger, the person remains an asperger through out life. Although his behaviours can be modified through behavioural therapy, some behaviours may persist or come back.
A neurologist may noy be the right person to handle this. You need to discuss this issue with a psychiatrist. It seems to be a symptom of aspergers disease and he may require behaviour therapy.
