What Causes Sudden Onset Of Laryngitis?

As I began to deliver the homily, it felt like I had a sudden onset of laryngitis and could do nothing to "clear my throat." I muscled through with water and coffee, and it finally abated but nothing came up. I have only occasional "spasms" like that. My throat does not feel raspy now. Any ideas?
Continue with antihistamines and also take antibiotics.

Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome to health care magic,
If you are suffering from acute inflammation of larynx (laryngitis) which is diagnosed correctly and have a vocal cod swelling then I would advice you to take small course of antibiotics (quinolones group or macrolides),if it has not subsided completely.
Along with it,you will also need anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen with antispasmodic (mebeverine or dicyclomine) and analgesic (diclofenac) for pain if there is pain during swallowing.
Take plenty of fluids orally with steam inhalation 3 to 4 times a day.
Also, give rest to the voice for at least couple of days for faster recovery.
As antibiotics are prescription drugs,it would be advisable if you could consult some local doctor or GP who may order routine blood investigation (if he suggests to rule out infection) and prescribe the drugs.
I expect you will get better within 3 to 4 days.
Hope this will help you.You can ask me if you need more clarification.
Regards,
