Question : I have had a bladder infection since this last Friday. My doctor gave me sulfamethoxazole-TM, to take 2x a day.
I finally had no pain, yesterday AM, but today I am in quite a bit of pain. So I took a mirror & looked at the urethra entrance (?for peeing?sorry can't think of another way to say this) It is slightly "open" and it is red and seems to be swollen....not on the outside, but in the entrance. I am wondering how I could be gradually with no pain yesterday, and today, I am back to the original pain....Is this from not having the correct antibiotic, or some other....worse....reason? If I could just have something (like, an ointment, though that's just because I'm thinking about Desitin for babies....I haven't been drinking water really well, but I did this AM, and the pain was less....My doctor isn't in right now, so if I need to, I could go to an Exer 'ungent care' near his office. They are open until 9PM....I'm in Calabasas, CA

Brief Answer:
Urethritis
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
You have urethritis. Sulpha group of medicines produce crystalluria . You should drink plenty of water otherwise it can produce burning when you pass urine. You could also take cranberry juice.
If it does not improve it may be better to change to another antibiotic like ciprofloxacin.
Hope you get well soon.

Thank you so much Dr. XXXXXXX I went to an urgent care & the Doctor there prescribed Keflex, piridium, & 1 Diflucan as he thought I may also have a yeast infection....It's like you said..a urethra infection....I was in such pain, that I took a picture of "the area," and the doc said it was definitely the urethra infection. Thank you so much for your expertise!
Sincerely, XXXX
