What Causes Swollen Glands On Left Side Of The Neck And Excessive Sneezing?

default

Question: The past couple of mornings I've woken up feeling like the gland in the left side of my neck is slightly swollen, tender to the touch. Last week i had swollen glands (or maybe just ingrown hairs?) in my armpit areas (both sides), but this occurs periodically over the past several years. I don't appear to have a cold or any kind of respiratory infection, or any other new symptoms. Is this something I should be concerned with because I don't have a cold or infection that i know of? When should i seek medical attention?

I have been sneezing excessively one-two times per day for the past couple of weeks, due to allergies I believe.

I'm a 32 year old female, relatively health, on Chantix for quitting smoking.

Brief Answer:
Be concerned and consult a Doctor for investigations and treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate:Female/32 - gland left side of neck - swollen and tender - couple of mornings - sneezing for couple of weeks - recurrent swollen lumps in armpits for several years and now for a week - no cold or infection at the moment - using chantix - wants to know whether to be concerns about and whether to seek medical attention...

My thoughts as per the history you have provided:
The armpit problem looks to be hidradenitis, meaning inflammation of the sweat glands.
The usual cause of a swollen gland in neck is infected lymph node, the cause can be obvious or hidden in some cases like dental caries a small injury or infection in the drainage area.
sneezing is obviously due to allergy.
I would advise you to visit a Doctor, preferably a general Surgeon for clinical evaluation, examination and investigations if needed to find the cause of all problems, get a reference to another Specialist if needed and to get an appropriate treatment.
You may need an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medicine cover.
May be an Ultrasound and FNAC of the cervical lump if there is no resolution with the regular treatment.
I hope this answers your query and helps to get an early and proper diagnosis and a plan for treatment.
