Question : Puncture on back of hand from a XXXXXXX thorn ...hit a vein and has caused swelling, cleaned and applied ice pack. Do I need further medical attention?
Brief Answer:
check your tetanus vaccination status
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
if there's no excessive swelling (tight, 'shiny' skin) and you've used antiseptic (hydrogen peroxide is fine) then there's probably a very low risk for infection. You should just check your tetanus vaccination status. If you haven't done the vaccine during the last 10 years then you should do it. If you've never done it then anti-tetanus immunoglobulin has to be administered as well.
Kind Regards!
