What Causes Taste Of Blood In Mouth When I Spit?

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Jun 2015
Question: I am having a strange thing going on with me and can't seem to find out what it is. I will be just sitting or blow drying my hair and getting ready, and will taste blood and when I spit, there will be blood. I can suck on my tongue and the blood seems to be coming from my tongue, not my gums. I have been to the dentist and she said it wasn't gum or tooth related, and didn't see anything wrong with my tongue. She wanted me to see a dr and I did, but they seem to know nothing. What would you suggest I do? Also I have been feeling really tired, and not everyday but about every two weeks I will start feeling weak and shaky and my arms and legs feel weak, and then I will break out in a sweat, and just feel weird. It's not like I skipped a meal and blood sugar would be low, and after I eat something like peanut butter in case that's what it is, I still feel that way, and afterwards I feel really tired and look like I feel bad out of my eyes. What do you suggest I see for these things. I also have some bruises on my body I don't know how I got them.

Brief Answer:
Probably auto erythrolytic purpura

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Welcome and thanks for your query.
I understand your concern.
Please let me know whether you had blood tests platelets count and a coagulation profile.
If these were normal, it is likely that you have a condition called auto erythrolytic purpura.
The exact reason why and how there's bleeding into the skin and elsewhere is not well understood but there's often an association with emotional stress or anxiety.
It is not a serious condition and there is nothing to worry.
Do get back to me if you have further queries.

Not sure if this has anything to do with what I already mentioned, but I am having tingling on my head, and it feel weird like a cold chill. Doesn't do it all the time, but feels strange.

Brief Answer:
Please see the explanation

Detailed Answer:
Please get your blood sugar checked during one of the episodes of discomfort. If it is normal, your symptoms may be due to a panic episode.
The bruising without any trauma and without any platelets or coagulation abnormalities is an autoerythrocytic purpura.
Simple analgesic like paracetamol would help regarding any aches and pains. Stress relieving measures like yoga, meditation or relaxation techniques would help. Some people require psychotherapy.

I don't need psychotherapy, my pains and swollen joints are real, not in my head. I need a dr to really listen and not blame everything on stress. If I do have stress, it's because of all the pain I am having and all the other issues which are NOT in my head, there is a reason, just finding what's wrong is the problem.

Brief Answer:
Agree that your physical symptoms are real and not imaginary.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Ms. XXXXXXX
I agree with you that it is not something in the head. It is a fact at the same time that many physical illnesses including rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, diabetes and its complications are all aggrevated by stress. The same goes for auto erythrocytic purpura. So good management of stress brings relief to your condition like it would do to control of diabetes in another person . Yoga and relaxation exercises are good for this and so is psychotherapy.
I did not imply anything more than that.

What kind of dr do I need to see to get some of these things either diagnosed or ruled out? The joints in my fingers hurt so bad and I have already been to a rheumatoid specialist, and he said he didn't think from looking at me that I had it. I don't think he did blood tests though. That's what is so aggravating, you go see a specialist and they don't do the test to find out. Why do u think I have this erythrocytic purpura, when I look it up, I don't see the symptoms I am having? Also, do u think I need to be checked for the other things u mention?

Brief Answer:
Tests

Detailed Answer:
If you are able to have your tests done in a lab even without a local doctor's request , then the tests you require are 1. A complete blood count ( CBC) . This will show whether you have a problem like low platelet count or other less likely diseases which can produce bleeding and easy bruising.
2. ESR and CRP ( These are tests to show you have an inflammation in the body)
3. Rheumatoid factor.

These are all normal in auto erythrolytic / erythrocytic purpura which was your first concern regarding the bleeding and easy bruising. The joint pain are not part of it but you have an arthralgia and myalgia which are common illnesses.
Do get back to me with further queries if you have.
I shall also be happy to look at the results when you have them.
