What Causes Throbbing Sensations In The Lower Back?

default
Posted on Fri, 25 Nov 2016
Question: When excited, angry, in the throes of any kind of ecstasy (drumming for example) I get a weird sensation in my lower spine and it can go up into the thoracic area. It's accompanied by a pulsing almost pounding simultaneous to the beat of my heart/pulse. I almost have to try to subdue it in some way because I feel my whole upper body throbbing. All with the best of my heart. It's scary, uncomfortable and evennslightly painful. My doc never seems to know what I'm talking about.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I carefully passed through your question and would explain that your symptoms don't seem to be related to any cardiac disorders.

Nevertheless, I would recommend performing further tests to investigate for the possible underlying causes:

- a chest X ray study for your aorta and mediastine
- a resting ECG
- an abdominal ultrasound to examine your abdominal aorta for possible aneurysm
- a lumbar spine X ray study to exclude possible chronic degenerations of the lumbar spine.

A neurological exam for possible signs of myeolopathy (spinal canal stenosis) is necessary too.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues!

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
