What Causes Unexplained Nerve Pain In Knees, Hands And Feet?

Question: Several years ago I had lymes disease. It was not until several weeks into the illness that it was diagnosed due to a false negative upon the first testing...by the time it was Diagnosed I had totally become crippled in my knees,hands, feet with what I know today is called neuropathy. I was given antibiotics and steroids to combat it and was told I was free of it...however I believe it hash come back to haunt me. At the time I contracted it I was using hormones for birth control...5 years ago when I stopped using them because tests confirmed I was in menopause the symptoms came raging back along with hot flashes....I went on hrt and they went away...in January I had a Tia caused by the hrt and was removed from hrt ....and now...it's back...I have had extensive testing done by a rheumotologist, endocrinologist and other doctors, they can't find a cause for my pain... Could this be the underlying cause and if so can it be cured.

I have very carefully gone through the details that you have provided. I do not think that Lymes's disease is the cause of your problems. Rather, the body's reactions to the altered state of hormone deprivation in your post menopausal stage seems to be the cause. In such a case it might be reasonable to start the HRT once again. Let me rassure you that although it could predispose you to TIA or similar cerebrovascular ailments, HRT does not 'cause' TIAs. You might understand that everything has pros and cons. In consideration of the present status I think it might be wiser to reinitiate the HRT. Talk to your treating physician about the same.
