What Causes Urethral Discomfort Post Unprotected Sex?

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Oct 2014
Question: I had unprotected sex w/ my gf a few hrs after her hpv colposcopy. A few days later I felt inflammation in my urethra. I got tested for HIV, ghonnerhea, chlamydia, hep and syphillis. All negative. She got tested for the same, all negative too. Except HSV1. I took doxycycline for 10 days...nothing. I then had hernia surgery and all urethra pain went away. Maybe because I was on so many meds. I don't know. Then I had unprotected sex with my girlfriend again. The urethra discomfort came back. Less intense, but came back. It comes and goes throughout the day. Feels better when I pee, but then comes back. Also noticed intermittent pain in thigh as well. My primary care physician thinks I have HSV1 inside my urethra. Prescribed valtrex a few days ago. No change so far. No blood in urine, no discharge. Thoughts????

Brief Answer:
HSV IgG or IgM?

Detailed Answer:
Good Day and thank you for being with Healthcare Magic!

When you say that all tests came out negative did you also mean you had a urine culture and also came out negative?

For your HSV that came out positive, is it the IgM or IgG antibodies that are elevated? If it us the IgM then it means recent exposure (days to a few weeks) while if it is IgG then it means it was exposure from before (months to years). I think this is a very important distinction to make.

To be able to diagnose HSV in the urethra you have to undergo a cystourethroscopy to look inside the urethra and bladder. this can be done as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications at: http://www.HealthcareMagic.com/doctors/dr-manuel-c-see-iv/66014 I would gladly help you. Best wishes
