What Causes Urinary Difficulty Post Unprotected Oral Sex?

Posted on Fri, 12 May 2017
Question: Have some discomfort after urination. Went to doc and ran a urine dip test, all clear. They sent for culture. He said he saw two tiny "cuts" in the bottom of my meatus, that could be the source of discomfort. Right now it's mostly sensitive when I touch or it rubs on my boxer briefs, or for a few minutes after i uriniate. Initially it had started as a general discomfort and I was pulling at the tip, opening the meatus looking for irregularities. Posisble that I caused this trauma? I have had only unprotected oral sex within the past month. Parter tested neg for anything. No doscharge and I can't personally see the "cuts" but I trust that the doc does. Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Trauma induced more likely...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through the details submitted. Though infections leading to urethritis can present similarly, I doubt what you have is because of infection. Many a times traumatic events do happen during an unprotected sex and can present with cuts. That being said, I will wait for culture reports before ruling out infections altogether.

I would also order you get your blood sugars checked. Sometimes such cuts are seen in patients with diabetes.

In the interim, drink plenty of fluids. Avoid sexual intercourse until you get better.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if you have any other concerns.

Regards

Thanks Dr., the oral sex took place about 3 weeks ago. I think I had some initial discomfort that I maybe made worse with "milking" as a check for discharge and spreading looking for any lesions or discharge. The pain is really more of a gentle warmth when I'm urinating and for a few minutes after. Any ideas to help with healing process? It's also sensitive when it rubs on my underwear. I still don't see any marks or cuts but I feel it. Thank you again

Brief Answer:
Mild steroid...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Absence of discharge is definitely a good sign. We shall wait until test results are out to completely rule out infections. But based on what you described, I don't think this is due to an infection.

As I mentioned in my previous reply, it's important to rule out high blood sugar. Presence of high sugar will impair healing until sugars are controlled.

If the discomfort is severe and troubling, I feel we can use a mild steroid creams. Please discuss with your doctor. Most likely the doctor will wait for tests results before consenting.
You may also try moisturizing agents / vaseline or KY jelly and see if you feel better. And yes, continue plenty of fluids.

The bottom line wait until test results are out. You will be started on specific treatment.

Hope this helps.

Urinalysis came back negative for STD. Doc thinks it's likely mechanical irritation. Could maybe be herpes? Still no sores or discharge. Irritation continues after moving around and rubbing on boxers. Hoping it heals soon. Thanks !

Brief Answer:
Good to know about the report...

Detailed Answer:
I apologies for the late reply. I was away from the internet during this Easter season.

I am glad to know culture did not grow any infective organism. As far as herpes is concerned, my initial assessment based on your description is against herpes. I would not be concerned about it either. If those cuts develop into sores or bumps get it reevaluated. Herpes is a clinical diagnosis and only physical examination can confirm it.

Hope this helps. I wish you good luck and good health during this Easter.

Thank you and regards
