What Causes Weakness And Dizziness While On Keppra?

default
Posted on Fri, 3 Jul 2015
Question: I had an episode of seizures over a year ago, diagnosed as polymiositus. I have had no seizures since, but have persistent dizziness and am considerably weaker . At first I was told that my main medication (keppra) was probably the cause of the dizziness, but the daily dose has been reduced to 1500 mg. per day. I am also taking 50 mg. of Azathioprine 3 times per day and 10 mg. of Prednisone per day.

Brief Answer:
You may change to less sedative drugs

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. Anti seizures medicine can causes sedation. I would recommend you to change your anti epileptic drugs to some less sedative medicine like phenytoin.
For that you need to see your neurophyscian. He may advised you to get EEG test to see if still you need to take drugs for seizures or not.
if seizure focus activity in brain is subsided then you can stop taking these drugs. if still it is there then you should shift to less sedative drugs.
I hope this answer will be useful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
Thanks
