Posted on Mon, 9 Oct 2017
Question: I have been suffering from rashes and skin irritation on my inner thighs for past 4-5 months. I have tried medication but as soon as I stopped taking antibiotics and ointment the rashes would come back within 4-5 days. I haven't seen a specialist for the problem but a doctor have prescribed me antibiotics. the rashes are on my inner thighs, skin just above my genitals and my butt. it looks like an circle with raised skin on the circumference.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Thank you for writing to us.

I am Dr. Kakkar (Dermatologist). I have gone through your query and I have noted your concern.

You seem to have a fungal infection - tinea.
Fungal infection of skin usually presents as ring shaped/ annular expanding lesions.
Inner thighs, buttocks, axillary folds, sub mammary area in females are the body folds that are commonly affected with fungus.
Heat, sweat, humidity are factors that favor growth of the fungus.
Apart from topical antifungals creams/ ointments oral antifungal too are often required for extensive skin involvement or for recurrent disease.
I suggest you to use Lulifin cream (1% luliconazole), twice daily for 4 weeks. In addition I suggest you to take an oral antifungal e.g Cap. Canditral 100mg (Itraconazole 100mg), twice daily for 4 weeks.
You may take an oral antihistamine e.g tab. teczine 10mg in evening for symptomatic relief from itching.
General measures like bathing twice daily, using cotton undergarments, keeping nails short, using separate towels, avoiding self medication with OTC creams and comleting treatment duration goes a long way in dealing with fungal infection
