Question: I am suffering from anxiety now and then for no reason. Becomes normal after sometime. Feel restless during anxiety period. But the B.P. and pulse rate will be normal. Do I have any health problem? How to overcome this spells of anxiety?

Based on local doctor's recommendations, I've undergone some tests - attached the lab reports.
Can Vitamin D deficiency be a reason for this problem?
Please advise.

Brief Answer:
You have high blood sugar

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for your query.

Your blood glucose levels are high. It suggests that you may be having diabetes. You need to restrict your sugar in take in diet and exercise regularly. Also take cleaner drinking water (avoid mineral water). High sugar levels are known to cause irritability and restlessness. The control of blood sugar levels will reduce the anxiety-type feeling. Some physicians start the medicines as soon as high blood sugar is seen. You should also regularly check blood sugar levels at home. This will assist you in modifying your diet accordingly.

Vitamin D levels are also low and sometimes can cause anxiety like symptoms. Take supplements for vit D like calcirol granules weekly for 1 month and then biweekly for next 2 months.

Recheck fasting blood sugar everyday until it is controlled and vit D levels after 3 months. Also check your blood pressure.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the quick response.
I've been diabetic since a long time. I dont consume normal sugar at all - use sugar free substitutes instead. Can that be a problem too?

Brief Answer:
Yes sugar substitutes should be less

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

Now I see your details.

Sugar free substitutes can be taken but better to take it occasionally. These can have some side effects.

Alternate way to decrease the anxiety is to do breathing exercises (called as XXXXXXX in yoga) regularly. These help regularize the abnormal breathing associated with anxiety.

Controlling diabetes and blood pressure will also help reduce the anxiety.

If it is affecting your routine life then a psychiatrist may be consulted.
